26th Feb 2010

Zycca Indian Restaurant We are open

from wed to sat for dinners only.

We can do lunches or private functions

but bookings are essential.

Wednesday to friday nights is our special

Thaali nights! A Thaali is a traditional

well balanced meal served on a

metal plate and includes dessert.

The word ‘Thali’ simply refers to the special stainless steel plate that the meal is served on. Millions of Indians eat Thali’s every lunch and dinnertime; it’s a traditional well-balanced meal that has kept a country healthy and nourished for centuries. The meal consists of a protein dish usually in the form of panner (Indian cheese) or fish, wild and sustainable of course, a lentil dish such as samber or dahl, a seasonal vegetable accompaniment served with rice and salad. The individual recipes will vary to the according region and the spices woven into the food are chosen for their nourishment as much as for taste.

One of the driving factors that led us to opening our restauarant was the thousands of Indian restaurants up and down the country that all insisted on serving the same inauthentic rich, creamy curries that bore no resemblance to what you may get in an Indian home. In contrast the food served at the Zycca is based on Arti's mum's own recipes which have been passed on to her from generation to generation of Indian mothers to daughters.

The beauty of serving Thali’s is that we can concentrate on producing a few dishes well; we use the best possible ingredients, which are fresh and free from GM foods, additives or preservatives.

Zycca Indian Restaurant

wed to sat

5.30pm onwards B.Y.O

54 Waratah St Katoomba 4782 5536

Hi my name is Aarti Shah and Zycca is the restuarant that I run with my mum Anu Shah. We started Zycca in February. My mother is the chef! She is an Ayurvedic practitioner as well as a Herbalist and she cooks with these principles in mind. You could say my mum is a healer and she
is healing now with food. Alot of our dishes are the ones that my family in India and here really like. The name Zycca translates quite literally as sophisticated flavours and this is the ethos behind the innovative menu. With an emphasis on refined yet creative Indian cuisine, the menu incorporates both traditional classic favorites and original new dishes that apply eastern flavours with a western twist. Our place is cute and romantic and we are in a heritage building just around the corner from the Three Sisters in Katoomba. We have a fire place too.
Bookings are essential.
